Trump cancels Summit of the Americas attendance

Chile: On 5 April, the US government announced it was reducing its restrictions on imports of lemons from Chile by getting rid of the requirement that all shipments must be fumigated before entering the US. The new measure involves newer, less stringent measures to stop the entry of the Chilean false red mite into the US, including registration of production sites, a wash-and-rinse protocol, and required inspections and phytosanitary certificates for each lemon shipment from Chile. Other citrus fruits from Chile are currently subject to the same measures. Chile’s agriculture ministry has said that it is satisfied with the reforms, and Chilean lemon exports to the US are expected to increase when the measures take effect on 7 May. Chile exported over 36m tonnes of lemons per year to the US between 2015 and 2017, making up nearly 50% of all lemon imports by the US.
