US offers aid for Venezuelan refugees

Argentina: In a 13 April press release, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that it had finalised the technicalities of an agreement that will allow for the resumption of pork exports to Argentina for the first time since 1992. The deal was struck by US President Donald Trump in August 2017. The US is the world’s top pork exporter: global sales amounted to US$6.5bn in 2017. The deal will open a market worth – potentially - US$10m a year for US pork producers. US Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue stated that “this breakthrough is the result of efforts by this Administration to help America’s farmers and ranchers reach new markets and ensure fair trade practices by our international partners. Once the people of Argentina get a taste of American pork products after all this time, we’re sure they’ll want more of it.”
