The ruling Asociación Nacional Republicana-Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) held onto the presidency, consolidating the right-ward shift within the sub-region. Uruguay’s leftist Frente Amplio government led by Tabaré Vázquez is left looking increasingly isolated compared with its more conservative neighbours.
