Introduction

Peruvian forestry authorities have recently engaged in a series of high-profile seizures of illegally sourced timber, as part of efforts to combat illegal logging. Yet the UK-based NGO Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) warns these efforts are being hampered by a backlash from the timber industry and its high-level political allies within government. In this April edition of Latin American Regional Report: Andean Group we begin by looking at these tensions.
