PERU: Are Peru’s clean water ambitions being drained?

In his inaugural address, Peru’s now former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016- March 2018) pledged that by 2021 all Peruvians would have 24-hour access to clean water and be connected to the sewerage system. Unorthodox perhaps, but on his commitment to providing sustainable water access for those most in need, Kuczynski had form. Both as part of the 2001-2006 government of Alejandro Toledo and as founder of the Agua Limpia NGO, he aimed to do just that. While he was forced to step down in March over alleged corruption, we consider the efforts made by his government up until his resignation to make good on this pledge.
