López Obrador’s new campaign strategy

Andrés Manuel López Obrador is a leftist former mayor of Mexico City (2000-2005), who is running for Mexico’s presidency for the third time. Since October 2017 he has shot up to the lead in all voting intention polls ahead of the 1 July presidential election. Both in the 2006 and 2012 general elections, López Obrador narrowly lost the presidential race in results that he strenuously challenged. However, this time around he looks in a much stronger position and less likely to scupper his lead.
