BARBADOS: Everything pointing to opposition win

The ruling Democratic Labour Party (DLP), led by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, waited until the last possible moment of its second five-year term before calling a general election, now scheduled for 24 May. Presumably the prime minister was hoping for something to come to the party’s rescue at the last gasp, but the opposite has happened with a very disappointing review of the first quarter’s economic performance by the Central Bank of Barbados.
