JAMAICA: Better news on employment, but growth still a concern

The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) government led by Prime Minister Andrew Holness came to power in February 2016 on the back of a promise to create some 200,000 new jobs. It has not, so far, achieved this highly ambitious goal but, as the prime minister revealed in a Workers’ and Labour Day speech on 1 May, there has been good progress on unemployment.
