Argentina: The board of directors of the World Bank’s International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has announced that it has approved a US$300m loan to the Argentine government to help finance the expansion of its public health services. According to a statement by Argentina’s finance ministry, the loan, along with an additional US$350m that is to be provided by the government, will be used to finance the universal health provision programme which benefits individuals under the age of 65 who do not have any health insurance. The ministerial statement points out that the expansion of the health provision programme will benefit some 15m people and that the aim is to reduce the inequalities in public health provision across the country.
