* Mexico’s foreign minister, Luis Videgaray, has met his Japanese counterpart, Taro Kono, in Mexico to reaffirm the “ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation and follow up on the high-level meetings between both countries”. According to a press release by Mexico’s foreign ministry (SRE), the two officials agreed “on the excellent level of the political dialogue and highlighted the dynamism of the economic exchanges”. They emphasised that since the adoption of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) in 2005 bilateral trade has increased to more than US$22bn. They also reaffirmed their governments' commitment to open markets and to free trade and welcomed the recent ratification of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) by Mexico’s senate. Japan is Mexico's fourth largest trading partner worldwide and its top Asia-Pacific investor.
