Trade surplus. Last month Ecuador’s foreign trade ministry reported that the country posted a US$261m trade surplus in the first quarter of 2018. According to the foreign trade ministry, exports totalled US$5.1bn over this period, up 10% from U$4.72bn in the same period of 2017, while imports totalled US$4.93bn, up 17% from US$4.21bn in the same period of 2017. In the first quarter of 2018, the US, the European Union (EU), and Peru were Ecuador’s biggest export markets, accounting for 51% of total exports.
