* Italian energy company Enel has obtained 73% of the shares of Brazilian electricity distributor Eletropaulo for R$5.55bn (US$1.48bn), winning a bidding war with Spain’s Iberdrola. By securing the majority share, Enel becomes Brazil’s leading energy provider, knocking CPFL Energia (owned by China’s state grid) off the top spot. Enel has added another 7m customers to its client list, bringing its total number of clients in Brazil to 17m.
