In brief: Peru

Peru: Peru’s Energy & Mining Minister Francisco Ísmodes has announced that the ministry has a project portfolio for the hydrocarbons sector of US$12.79bn for the 2018-2022 period, including exploration, exploitation, and natural gas. He made his remarks at the ‘Perú Energía 2018’ conference, which was attended by top executives from the electricity and hydrocarbons sectors. Ísmodes also affirmed the commitment of the Peruvian state to expanding gas provision in urban areas, as well as improving the electricity network.  One of the government’s main goals is to provide rural areas with full electricity coverage by 2021 as currently 18.5% of the population (some 420,000 families) lacks access to it. Ísmodes added that this would require an approximate investment of US$600m in public works including networks and massive photovoltaic programmes.
