Costa Rica’s Alvarado visits the US

Argentina: On 13 June Argentina’s finance minister, Nicolás Dujovne, held a phone conversation with US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in which they discussed the agreement reached by the Argentine government led by President Mauricio Macri and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The agreement signed on 7 June includes a US$50bn IMF credit line, which will last for 36 months, and has as a main goal to reduce Argentina’s fiscal deficit and shore up its foreign reserves. According to a press release from the Argentine government, Dujovne emphasised the agreement’s focus on fiscal convergence and tax reduction, as it will boost Argentina’s private sector. Dujovne also appreciated the support received from the US government during the formulation of the agreement with the IMF. Both Dujovne and Mnuchin arranged to meet as part of this year’s G20 summit that will take place in Buenos Aires in July.
