* Some of the leading presidential pre-candidates hoping to run in Brazil’s 7 October general election have agreed that the country has not fully recovered from the deep economic recession it suffered in 2015-2016, and that reigniting the domestic economy will be the main challenge of the new government. Speaking at a business forum in the city of São Paulo, eight presidential hopefuls - including the far-right politician Jair Bolsonaro, environmentalist Marina Silva, former finance minister Henrique Meirelles, and former São Paulo state governor Geraldo Alckmin - all agreed that Brazil is still facing an economic crisis. All the pre-candidates also agreed that there are no easy solutions for Brazil’s economic woes and that the new government would have to take “difficult decisions”.
