Brazil: Security -– the view from the extreme right

It has been evident for a number of months now, and has been confirmed again by the latest opinion polls: there is a distinct possibility that Brazil’s next president could be Jair Bolsonaro, a representative of the extreme right, and an exponent of knee-jerk, hard-line, law-and-order policies. Here we look at the socio-economic conditions that are increasing his support; his chances of winning in what is already showing itself to be a volatile and unpredictable electoral campaign; and we examine what some of his security policies might be.
