MEXICO: Anaya loses coalition support

With Mexico’s general election just days away, some members of the Right-Left Por México al Frente have publicly withdrawn their support for Ricardo Anaya, the coalition’s presidential candidate. Anaya continues to trail in second place in the opinion polls behind Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the presidential candidate of the left-wing Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena). But the announcement by factions of the leftist Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD), one of the main members of Por México al Frente, that they would not be supporting Anaya’s bid but rather voting for López Obrador may have delivered a decisive blow to Anaya’s electoral chances.
