Ecuador: A march against Ecuador’s President Lenín Moreno and in support of the former president Rafael Correa (2007-2017) under the slogan “be outraged Ecuador” has taken place in the capital, Quito. The mobilisation of thousands of Correa supporters followed an announcement by Ecuador’s public prosecutor’s office on 3 July that it had made a request to Interpol to have Correa arrested in Belgium (where he is currently residing), on kidnapping charges. The march towards the presidential palace was organised by former members of the ruling Alianza País (AP), the party to which Correa used to belong, current members of the legislature, and movements supporting Correa such as Movimiento Revolución Ciudadana. While organisers declared that the march was peaceful, a police statement reported that eight police officers ended up with concussion due to “aggression” on the part of protestors and 11 protesters were arrested.
