Venezuela: President Nicolás Maduro has confirmed that Vladimir Padrino López will continue in his post as defence minister, but he has named two new officials as part of a shakeup of the military leadership. Giuseppe Alessandrello will become head of the navy and Pedro Alberto Juliac head of the air force, replacing Edglis Herrera Balza and Iván Hidalgo Terán respectively. Jesús Suárez Chourio will remain head of the army. Chief Admiral Remigio Ceballos will continue as head of Operational Strategic Command and José Ornella Ferreira his chief of staff, while Richard López remains head of the Bolivarian national guard (GNB) and Major General Carlos Augusto Leal Tellerías as head of the Bolivarian militia. Maduro recently accused elements of the armed forces of conspiring against him and made officials sign a document of loyalty.
