GUYANA: Jagdeo blocked

On 26 June, the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) ruled by a 6-1 majority in favour of the Government vs Cedric Richardson, thus upholding that the amendment to the constitution by a vote in parliament to include presidential term limits was constitutional. This means that Bharrat Jagdeo, former president (1999-2011) and leader of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), cannot run for a third term in the 2020 election.
