Colombia: Colombia’s President-elect Iván Duque has named Alberto Carrasquilla Barrera as his finance minister when he takes office in August, following Duque’s victory for the right-wing Centro Democrático (CD) party in the presidential second-round run-off last month. Carrasquilla was previously finance minister from 2003 to 2007 under former president Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010) and was also a technical economist at Colombia's central bank (Banrep) and the Inter-American Development Bank. In a press release issued on 18 June, credit ratings agency Fitch said that the election of Duque, who is widely seen as Uribe’s poltical heir, signalled a continuation of economic policies, although it cited fiscal consolidation and promoting growth as key challenges for the incoming government.
