El Salvador: El Salvador’s central bank (BCR) has released figures which show that the country received US$2.68bn worth of remittances from abroad in the first six months of 2018, up 9.3% on the same period last year. In June 2018 alone, the country received US$461m in remittances. The US accounted for 93.4% of the total, followed by the European Union (US$0.9%) and Canada (0.9%). According to a BCR press release Guatemala received US$4.4bn worth of remittances in the first six months of 2018, up 8.6%, while Honduras received US$2.4bn, up 8.2%.
