BRAZIL: Facing an unpredictable election in October amid chaos and distrust

Brazil’s 7 October general election could become one of the most unpredictable since the late 1980s. According to recent public opinion polls, confidence in traditional political parties has plummeted, with corruption being the top concern for voters. The scale of corruption is unbelievable, incomparable and even difficult to explain. The incumbent president, four of his predecessors, and at least 100 elected politicians are already in jail or under investigation for corruption. And that is just the tip of the iceberg.
