Argentina: Argentina’s federal government has issued a resolution eliminating the minimum air-fare requirements from 31 July. For years the Argentine government had been setting minimum air-fare levels in order to regulate the domestic air passenger transport market and make sure that firms operating in the market – including the state-run national carrier Aerolíneas Argentinas – were able to make a profit. However, as part of its plans to liberalise the domestic air transport market, the government led by President Maurico Macri has eliminated this measure following its decision to open up the market to new players, including low-cost providers, for the first time last year.
