* According to figures released by Brazil’s national statistics institute (IBGE), retail sales recorded a 0.3% monthly decrease in June. This is the second consecutive decrease this year, with an accumulated 1.5% fall in May-June. Despite the negative result, five of the eight observed industries recorded an increase in their sales from May to June. The hypermarket, supermarket, foodstuff, drink and tobacco sector; and the fuel and lubricant sector, recorded losses of 3.5% and 1.9% respectively. Retail sales have, however, seen a year-on-year increase of 1.5% compared to June 2017. Accumulated sales over the past 12 months remain stable having recorded 3.7% growth in May and a 3.6% increase in June.
