Mercosur contemplates standard food labels

According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), over half of Latin Americans are obese are overweight. In this context, the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) countries - Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, and Paraguay - have agreed to adopt standard food labelling to warn about products high in fat, salt, and sugar. This announcement produced a reaction from the local food industry, which demands to enter the debate.
