Brazil tackles ‘fake news’ as threat to general election becomes serious

Brazil is less than two months away from its 7 October general election and the outcome is still widely unpredictable. Brazilians have been dealing with feelings regarding the country’s politics, ranging from rage to distrust, while they are faced with an extra issue this time around: fake information and news. Amid fake information chaos coming from questionable media outlets, and real chaos due to ongoing corruption scandals affecting prominent political figures, the Brazilian electorate has become confused and unsure about who to vote for or trust and what to expect ahead of the first election round.
