In brief: Colombia

Colombia: Colombia’s national statistics institute (Dane) has released new economic figures which show that the country’s GDP grew by 2.8% in the second quarter of 2018, compared with the same period last year. Colombia’s GDP grew by 0.6% in April-June compared with the first quarter of 2018. Dane says that the year-on-year growth is due to increases in activity in the public administration and defence sector (5.3%); the manufacturing sector (3.7%); and the wholesale and retail sector (3.6%). Only two of the twelve main economic sectors reported a fall in activity over the period: the mining and quarries sector (-2.7%) and the construction sector (-7.6%). Year-on-year GDP growth for the first half of 2018 has come in at 2.5%.
