Dominican Republic: According to the Dominican Republic’s (DR) mining and oil chamber (Camipe), the DR’s mining sector registered 58.3% annual growth from 2010-2016 in terms of national exports, far ahead of agriculture (4.8%) and industry (3%). According to the same source, mining activity contributed RD$56.70bn (US$1.14bn) in taxes over the same period; the sector provides 8,590 direct jobs and over 32,000 indirect jobs. Exploitation of mines and quarries accounted for 0.4% of the DR’s GDP in 2010, rising to 1.9% in 2016.
