Mexico: AMLO’s complicated security challenge

Taking a cynical view, politicians fight elections with sound bites and then, if they win, have to try and turn those sound bites into serious and viable policies. Mexico’s President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) may be in the middle of that transition right now, trying to turn his vote-winning promises of security, justice, peace, and the eradication of corruption into concrete action programmes. It isn’t going to be easy.
