The performance debate about Panama

There is a tendency among Latin American journalists and economists to compare their own countries with their nearest neighbours, sometimes leading to hyper-critical views of the ‘home team’. It can however offer interesting insights into the perceived strengths and weaknesses of different economies. In this context the views of Costa Rican journalist Daniel Salazar Murillo, writing in newspaper El Financiero, and comparing his country’s performance to that of Panama, are of interest.
