US and Mexico announce security agreement to tackle organised crime

In a joint press conference on 15 August, US and Mexican government officials announced a new bilateral agreement and measures to combat organised crime on both sides of the border. A new team comprising members of the US Attorney General’s Office, US federal law enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as well as similar Mexican institutions will be based in Chicago, Illinois, scene of a recent spate of drug-related gang violence.
