* Haiti’s bicameral national legislature (comprising the 119-member chamber of deputies and the 30-member senate) has approved the government plan of Jean Henry Céant, President Jovenel Moïse’s pick for new prime minister. Céant unveiled his new government plan and proposed cabinet on 6 September. He fills a post that has been vacant since July following the resignation of Jack Guy Lafontant over the government’s mishandling of a rise in petrol prices which prompted deadly unrest - the biggest crisis to face President Moïse and his Parti Haïtien Tèt Kale (PHTK) government since taking office in February 2017. The new 18-member cabinet includes the re-appointment of six ministers who served under Lafontant: Jobert C Angrand (agriculture), Fritz Caillot (public works, transport & communications), Jean Roudy (justice & public security), Jean Marie Reynaldo Brunet (interior & collective territories), Marie Greta Roy Clément (health), and Pierre Agénor Cade (education). Controversially three of the re-appointed ministers have faced previous accusations of lacking the correct financial clearance to serve: Angrand, Reynaldo, and Roudy.
