* According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (Unodc)’s latest Coca Cultivation Survey Report for Colombia, the area under coca cultivation in Colombia reached the highest ever recorded figure of 171,000 hectares (ha) in 2017. This represents an increase of 25,000 hectares, or 17% in 2017 compared to 2016. According to the report, which is produced by the Unodc’s Integrated System for Monitoring Illicit Crops (Simci) Project, the departments of Antioquia, Putumayo, Norte de Santander, and Cauca show the biggest increase in coca crop area of around 64%. The report also found that in 2017 cocaine seizures in Colombia increased by 20%. It is estimated that Colombia's potential production of cocaine has a value of US$2.7bn in the local market.
