US backs Colombia in confrontation with Venezuela

Argentina: On 19 September Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri received a delegation of US Republican and Democrat legislators led by Edward Royce (R-CA), president of the foreign relations commission of the House of Representatives. According to a presidential press release, the legislators expressed their backing for both the “structural changes” being carried out by the Argentine government and for the process of Argentina’s adhesion to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The press release also cites the legislators as highlighting the Argentine government’s leadership during its current pro-tempore presidency of the G-20 group and thanked President Macri for his “permanent defence of democratic values, particularly in relation to the situation in Venezuela”. The US congress representatives also highlighted that they were working together with the US Trade Secretary Wilbur Ross on solving the question of barrier-free exports of Argentine meat and biodiesel to the US market. Also present at the meeting was Argentina’s foreign minister, Jorge Faurie; secretary of strategic affairs, Fulvio Pompeo; and the US ambassador to Argentina, Edward Prado, among others.
