Region: A Central American China syndrome?

The US is getting worried about China’s presence in Central America. A decision to recall US ambassadors from Panama, the Dominican Republic, and El Salvador (all countries that recently established full diplomatic relations with Beijing) coupled with the postponement of a meeting with Northern Triangle countries, has set off speculation that Washington may be seeking to take a more pro-active line in an area long considered the US’s ‘back yard’.
