BELIZE | State of emergency for Belize City. On 4 September, Belize’s National Security Minister John Saldivar announced a 30-day state of emergency in the south side of Belize City in response to an escalation in gun violence. The decision had been coming since at least March, when the level of criminal activity escalated and the Belize Defence Force (BDF) was sent in to help the police.
