In brief: Paraguay

* Paraguay’s central bank (BCP) has reported that net foreign direct investment (FDI) into the country reached US$455.9m in 2017, a 22.9% year-on-year increase. According to a BCP report, total foreign investment into Paraguay last year totalled US$1.336bn although US$880.4m of foreign capital left the country. The report notes that the economic areas that received the highest levels of FDI last year were beef production, financial intermediation, real estate, and retail. The main sources of FDI were identified as the US, Brazil, and Spain, although the BCP noted that there has been an increase in investments from Luxembourg, Panama, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
