Brazil’s national statistics agency (IBGE) has released the latest unemployment figures for the third quarter of 2018, which show a slight decrease in Brazil’s unemployment rate. Unemployment for June-August stands at 12.1%, down from 12.7% in March-May. According to the IBGE, 12.7m Brazilians are unemployed, and 27.5m are underutilised (unemployed or underemployed). Employment in the private sector has remained stable, while the number of self-employed workers grew by 1.5% in June-August compared to the second quarter of 2018.
