In brief: Paraguay

*The European Union (EU) has disbursed €15m (US$17m) to Paraguay’s education & science ministry (MEC) as part of a €46m non-refundable plan to improve the quality of education in Paraguay. The first €15m disbursement was made in August 2017. The second payment, disbursed in early October, to reach a total of €30m, was made following the analysis of some parameters attesting improvements in school attendance rates and education standards in the country. This strategic collaboration between the EU and Paraguay is part of the United Nations-led 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The EU disbursements, which fund Paraguay’s national development plan 2030 and the government’s education agenda, are designed to improve the quality of education at all age levels and consolidate the values of diversity and inclusion within Paraguay’s education system.
