In brief: Honduras

* Honduras’s private sector lobby, Cohep, has hailed the 10 October announcement by President Juan Orlando Hernández to “re-found” the electrical energy sector. President Hernández signed the agreement with representatives from Cohep; the state-owned national electricity energy company (ENEE); the Honduran association of electricity producers; the Honduran energy company (EEH), a consortium established in 2016 which was allocated operation of the national distribution grid; and the Honduran association of banking institutions. Announcing the agreement Hernández said it contains eight important components. Among other things, these include: comprehensive reform of the electricity sector; revision of contracts and recovery of debts owed to the ENEE; reduction of losses; improving the quality of service; and energy efficiency.
