In brief: Brazil

* Six leftist parties in Brazil have come together to form a democratic front, and signed a manifesto declaring their support for the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) presidential candidate Fernando Haddad in the 28 October run-off vote, in rejection of his opponent, far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro of the Partido Social Liberal (PSL). The six parties, which include the PT and members of its presidential coalition, as well as parties that have officially announced their support for Haddad, call for Brazilians to overcome their differences and cast a vote for democracy and freedom in the second round, warning against the threat of fascism and authoritarianism without actually naming Bolsonaro. The signatories hope to be joined by political figures from centrist parties as well.
