Will the fight against corruption and impunity continue?

For decades, Paraguay has occupied the unenviable position of being one of the world’s more corrupt countries. The press from the so-called first world report few stories from the country, but the recurrent themes are drug trafficking and illegal smuggling. But something is changing, the new government led by President Mario Abdo Benítez has been promoting a strong fight against corruption and impunity, in line with his campaign promises. But as the anti-corruption drive starts to affect prominent members from the ruling Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR-PC) party there are now questions over whether the drive will continue much longer.
