Peru: Security implications of political roller coaster

In the first half of October Peru experienced a sequence of major political developments – blows and counter-blows – in a boxing match pitting the government of President Martín Vizcarra against the main opposition party, Fuerza Popular (FP). Intense political battles are not unusual in Latin America. But what make’s Peru’s case particularly noteworthy is that at root, all the current battles are about crime, corruption, and other related security issues.
