Mexico: The coming security transition

Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) takes office on 1 December as Mexico’s new president, bringing with him a wide-ranging reformist agenda, particularly in relation to policies on crime and security. While this includes new and innovative thinking, there are reasons to believe that the next Mexican administration will still struggle to reduce the intensity of the country’s deeply embedded cycle of violence.
