In brief: Dominican Republic

* The Dominican Republic (DR)’s Central Bank (BCRD) has released figures which show that tourism revenue in 2017 totalled US$7.177bn, equal to 38% of total exports of goods and services, while 6.19m people visited the country that year. The same report also highlights the increase in the number of tourists via cruise ships (1.1m) who entered the country, up 36.9% compared with 2016, noting that this has been made possible via the opening in 2015 of the cruise ship terminal Amber Cove in Puerto Plata province.
