* A local think-tank, the Centre for Economic Studies of the Private Sector (CEESP), has issued a report calling on the incoming Mexican government (which takes office in December) to properly define its fiscal objectives. It warns that, as it stands, the new government led by president-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador has made various campaign spending promises which the reassignment of budget resources alone will not cover. It warns that, unless action is taken, López Obrador’s promises could result in a budget deficit of M$400bn (US$20bn). The think-tank also questions how López Obrador will fulfil campaign spending promises given that he is also pledging not to increase taxes or create new ones.
