* Brazil’s foreign minister, Aloysio Nunes, met with his Canadian counterpart Chrystia Freeland for the third Strategic Partnership Dialogue between Brazil and Canada in Ottawa. The two officials discussed areas of bilateral cooperation, including defence, education, and science & technology. They also expressed their commitment to collaborating on the implementation of the Paris Agreement, and to accelerating negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Canada and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), of which Brazil is a part, along with Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Brazil’s foreign ministry noted that a fourth round of discussions on an FTA is planned for December. Finally, Nunes and Freeland reportedly discussed the crisis in Venezuela and the impact of the mass migration movements on the region. “We look forward to continuing to expand and deepen our relationship and welcome increased Canada-Brazil political, economic and social cooperation” a statement by Canada’s ministry of global affairs said.
