Pompeo discusses migrant caravan with Mexico’s Videgaray

Argentina: On 19 October officials from the US and Argentine governments signed a joint statement following the second meeting of the US-Argentina Council on Trade and Investment under the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (Tifa). Officials from the two governments discussed their respective ongoing trade negotiations, bilateral agricultural market access issues, and ongoing work in the Global Forum on Steel Excess Capacity. Topics such as cooperation on fisheries subsidies, industrial subsidies and state-owned enterprises were also discussed in the meeting. The statement notes that there is a shared commitment by the US and Argentina to continue “a constructive and open engagement under the Tifa with the goal of strengthening bilateral and economic ties”. US and Argentine officials also agreed to work together to ensure the success of the World Trade Organization (WTO) initiative on electronic commerce. US-Argentina bilateral trade in goods and services totalled US$26.3bn in 2017.
