In brief: Brazil

* The World Bank has released its ‘Doing Business 2019’ report which shows that Brazil is the country in Latin America and the Caribbean that has most improved its ease of doing business (EODB) score in 2018. The World Bank ranks Brazil 109th out of 190 countries studied, with an EODB score of 60.01, a 2.96-point improvement on last year (the maximum possible score is 100 and the best-ranked country, New Zealand, has a score of 86.59). Brazil’s improved score is due to reforms introduced in four areas measured by the World Bank’s report which strengthen the country’s business environment. Brazil successfully introduced electronic certificates of origin, launched online systems for company registration, improved access to electricity, and passed reforms to simplify cross-border trade. Mexico remains the best-ranked country in the region (54th) with a score of 72.09.
